I stared at my WIP. And stared. Fiddled around, moved some things, reread some things. Total mind blank. So in the end I gave in, looked up a prompt generator and brainstormed two new stories, really quick and fun and easy. Got my 1000 words, but let myself get distracted from my main project. Oh well! Words are words.

Today's writing was mostly rewriting yesterday's writing, but I managed 450 new words.

I found myself doing more planning for the short story (I don't usually plan short stories, but I usually also don't finish them, so this approach is worth trying, I feel). I also worked a bit on fanfic, writing a bit and editing a bit, but it's getting too late to continue that.

Oooh, I hope planning helps you finish the story, and if it doesn't, at least you'll know it isn't the answer. Best of luck!

Yeah, if it doesn't work out any better, then I at least know that and can try some other strategy! (Based on my experience with fanfic exchanges etc., I just need a deadline and the idea that someone else may feel bad if I don't finish. Now how to achieve that with original short stories, I don't know, since I don't have anyone expecting them from me!)

[i've budgeted even more time towards writing, i tend to keep the window open between 1-7am now, because i have the inspo and the motivation and i'd better make good on it, the famine days will happen this month eventually. i got 1k and a separate 500 written for a couple of couples i've not produced for since last year ]

Yay for blocking out time in your schedule for writing and making a habit of it! Especially in the first half of the month, when (in theory) energy levels are higher than they will be later. Also 1.5k is a fantastic wordcount, congrats!

I wrote a 229-word poem fragment sort of in the same general universe as an earlier series I'd been playing with. In this case, it was just catharsis and wanting to get some words down. I'm hoping to have a good chunk of time on Sunday to do a complete read-through on the rough draft of the novel and then plan out the changes and get started with the editing. Until then, I'm trying to just enjoy having no particular goal in mind when I sit down to write. Since I'm goal-oriented, this is a challenge. ;-)

I've spent the last two days (4th and 5th) writing 1,119 words of a new thing which was going to be a flashfic, but which, it turns out, needs about 5-10k words of world-building and makes a sad-but-hopeful canon ending much worse. (Oops!) So I think I'll put that on hold for a while and try something else...

As for me, I wrote another couple of sentences today, plus some jotting down of notes and a bit of canon review for another fic that's brewing.

After ducking it for a while, I went and added a significant amount of words to the WIP, such now that section 3 is caught up to sections one and two. That means I'm probably looking at maybe 5-6k at this point and i still haven't connected up a scene near the end yet, because there's still a different scene that will need to be written out before we can even contemplate his to link the narrative up to this part.

Maybe writing on two other things will take a bit of the pressure off, and you can come back to your main WIP refreshed.

Today I put most of my energy into the nonfiction project. Then, like you, I stared at my novel for a while. Moved some things around, DELETED more stuff -- at this rate I'm going to end up with haiku instead of a novel -- and gazed despairingly at a bunch of interesting but disconnected bits and pieces.

Oh well. Onward and upward.

I've been very busy with power cleaning and baking on the 3rd and celebrating my husband's birthday yesterday (hence the cleaning and baking *g* ), so only 240 and 176 words respectively; but I'm satisfied as I spend very little time at the computer anyway.
