Day 5

In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story. How did you come to fandom, why did you choose your fannish name, do you have more than one secret identity?

I started writing and reading fic with Harry Potter, then discovered Doctor Who which I didn't properly write for but it provided a bridge to Life on Mars fandom, where I have been content writing fic for nearly 8 years now. There has been the odd foray into Torchwood, Starsky and Hutch and Cabin Pressure, but I've always come back to LoM. Just in the past six months I've discovered Person of Interest and been completely captivated by it.

My name is...I find it a great comfort that... however far away I am from people I love, barring a sudden relocation to an alien planet, we will always be under the same sky. Sky became my fannish nickname slightly by accident, but after several years I feel like I fully own it. I love meeting up with my best fannish friends and hearing them call me Sky in person.

Phew! I just finished RTD's Writer's Tale. I know, I know, it was published over a year ago. But I found it in Smiths about two weeks ago and finally bought it. Took me three whole days to finish it. And I mean without stopping. I am not a slow reader, either. :P

Ah, what the heck, it was brilliant.

It has put paid to some of my ridiculous notions about him having planned Every Single Little Thing right from the word dot, especially with Donna in Series 4. And, you know, he's human. I suppose I should be a bit sad about that, like the mystique's gone, or the Wizard of Oz is just a scared little man, or Dumbledore wasn't perfect (god, I was sad about Dumby!) but it's really just made my respect for him that much higher.

Apart from that, there's a huge amount of insight into the writing process, so it works for me on aspirational as well as fannish levels. It's given me lots to think about.

There are people that hate him because of CoE still. Hell, I say he rocks. Because if there's one thing this book has taught me: writing's bloody hard. And writing something that could have withstood the going over that fandom gave it? Nigh-on impossible.

I can't rewatch CoE yet, because it still has the power to make me miserable just thinking about it. I'd say that means he's done his job. :P

5 HOURS, GUYS! XD

I just went and bought a bag of Jelly Babies and two cans of coke to celebrate.

As if I need the extra caffiene.

Having said that, I'm a little apprehensive because I've got this creeping feeling of 'nothing's gonna be the same again', you know?

Still, it's gonna be AWESOME.

No spoilers in the comments, plzkthnx. :)
