Was a bit of a struggle to reach 1k today but I got there eventually. I finished a paragraph on 995 and those last five words were far more difficult than the others!

736 words for me today - my characters are currently rolling around in a bush together but I don't have a ton of inspiration for what's going to happen next. That's for tomorrow!

[no matter what the context 'my characters are currently rolling around together but i don't know what's happening next' is so relatable XD ]

416 words today divided between two stories. I seem to be in a phase of just adding words to whatever WIPs I feel like without actually finishing anything...

[pixel art devoured at least three hours of my writing time this morning, as i turned to my image inspiration after struggling to drag 100 words out of myself, and i really worried that might have been it for the day. i was so tired when i got an rp message at 2pm(?) that inspired me to try jotting down a start to the scene i had plotted with that character. uploaded that from the phone after some sleep, and it was an even 700 words - that fic is now at an unedited 15K. therefore, day 3, 800 ]

[i did write a conversation starter on what a drabble does, exactly and i'd like to try writing a bit more of that scene i started, but i'm going to wait until after midnight and put it towards day 4's wordcount ]

I outlined bits? Sort of? I know substantially what happens in two crucial moments prior to the earliest bit I wrote yesterday, anyway; the structure of this is a sequence of outside PoV vignettes and therefore these crucial moments can only be hinted at in-text. I also have several notions of what next. Problem is they contradict.

(I gotta get Minuit screaming "Where the fuck have you been?" the moment she sees him, and subsequently hugging him within an inch of his life and asking what he did with his hair, in text somehow, though.)

And I don't know if I can drop into the PoV of the police officer looking at Adrien's phone without rethinking my structure, because of necessity that's a scene Adrien isn't in. I also don't know if I can revisit any of the existing seven PoV characters (or other OCs), or if I can't. Gaaaah.

I got 1616, and I've pretty much joined my fic all together now. I will be writing all new stuff tonight instead of patching, which will be an interesting change of pace.

Go you! Yay for sticking it out for those last five impossible words. :-)

I wrote a 244-word exercise during the writers' club I run for a small group of students at school. It's always fun to hear what they come up with, and I usually have a lot of fun myself as well. Today, we picked random words from the bible and then had to use them in a story. I managed to work Moab, unblemished, events, drew, and obscure into a little satirical bit about Satanism, bestiality, and proper English ritual sacrifices. ;-)

The day I was barely home turned out to be the best so far (not saying much mind you)

393- finished flash fic that I now have to trim

225 words for [community profile] wipbigbang

105 words on the thing I was supposed to be working on. sigh.

I know what you mean about struggling to get five more words to get to a goal. It's like your brain suddenly goes, "words? what are words, earthling?" and refuses to cough them up.

So to speak. ;-)

I did more "herding" -- reorganizing and deleting. And will do more tomorrow! And the next day!

I spent a lot of time writing notes and outlining for two different short story ideas. By my calculations ended up with over 1000 words of notes! Maybe my muse has taken to this "actually write short stories" plan. We'll see!

Also a bit of research reading for the novel again.

I keep meaning to do short stories myself but I'm struggling to predict how many words things actually need?

I totally know what you mean! I tend towards wordiness, and usually when I start something that I believe is a short story, it ends up wanting to be more of a novella or a long novelette, and then I run out of steam because I didn't plan as much as something of that length needs from me. I've had more practice with short fiction when I've done fanfic exchanges etc. because I rarely have time for anything long in the time-frame of the exchange, and I have an incentive to finish! And I've also been reading more original short stories, especially after I discovered all those modern SFF zines (including their podcasts, which allow me to "read" a story while on a train or cleaning or knitting or something). So I'm hoping I'll start to learn to think also in short-story length, because some stories will work better explored in a shorter length, and I don't have time to write a novel out of all the ideas I get! I still don't know how to predict length (though I do okay-ish with fanfic, but there I already know many of the variables, like characters and the world), but maybe it'll get easier if I manage to write a few of them!

Turns out I had to stick a conclusion onto something I had already thought I completed, so that puts a few hundred words in the bank, without having to move forward on a different story that just needs writing.
