Very, very good. The story has really found its rhythm and there might have been no OMG EPIC EXPLOSIONS/GUNBATTLES/CLIFFS/NAKEDNESS but it was still gripping from start to finish. Couple of things I particularly enjoyed:
- Jack 'letting slip' that he knew about Gwen being pregnant before Rhys. He's a total bastard (more on that later), but it made me grin regardless.
- Ianto's SEXTIEMNAOPLZ? moment. At the start of the conversation I was cringing, I was thinking 'don't make it even worse by making Jack relive it, Ianto!' But Jack didn't go all closed off about it like he usually does, and then it was just cuteness. Stupid oblivious Rhys. :P
- I expect lots of fic to come out of the 'fun with contact lenses' discussion. XD
- Andy. Just being himself. Is awesome.
- Frobisher talking to the alien for the first time. Wasn't overly impressed by the alien (did anyone think of the crab thingies from DW: Gridlock? What are they called?), but was very impressed by Frobisher. Whether he turns out to be evil or not, I still think he's a BRILLIANT character.
- Alice. Totally amazing Alice. As Johnson says, very much her father's daughter. Not only can she handle herself in a crisis, she's very, very pretty. ♥ (And we now know who her mother is. I didn't expect us to find out so soon.)
- The guys stealing the cards and stuff, very 'The Real Hustle'. And Gwen had a EUREKA moment for once, instead of always Ianto. :)
- Clem. Poor underused Clem. I was fascinated by him the whole way through, and we know a little bit more about what happened to him now, but not his connection to the alien or how he got away.
- Rhys REALLY loves his food, bless him. He's so domesticated and cuddly. I want one! LOL.
- Lovely Lois stepped up to the mark once again. Definitely a Martha and/or Tosh in the making there. I really hope she doesn't die. :( Please Uncle Rusty, don't kill her?! *begs* And I didn't really think much of the contact lenses device in S2, but now I absolutely love them. They're so nifty! My favourite piece of tech so far, second only to Gwen's sonic thingy. I LOVE Gwen's sonic thingy. And I still want Gwen/Sarah Jane fic with discussion of who has the better sonic device.:P
- WE GOT AN EXPLANATION FOR THE COAT, PPLZ! Still no mention of Myfanwy or Janet or Grey, though. I think we're gonna have to accept that they're gonners, folks. D: *cries*
- Gwen being all cute and swivelling about on the office chair, giving Jack a high five when he comes back in. :D
- Ianto's brother in law Johnny continues to not be awful. I did sort of not like him when we first saw him, for obvious reasons, but I liked him a lot better today. Even if he is only looking after the kids for the money. :P
- Harkness vs. Frobisher - who can out-blackmail the other? Really great scene.
Other rambly thoughts:
*sigh* Ever so slightly bored with OMGJACKDIDSUMTHINBADINTHEPAAAAST!!1 by now. Oh well. I expect Gwen to thoroughly smack him, then actually give him chance to explain his (however flawed) reasoning and after that we'll all be expected to love him again. Stupid sexy bastard. But I want Gwen to kick his ass first.
So, how much do we reckon the sports car thing was as a result of JB's influence? RTD doesn't just do fanservice, he does actorservice too, y'know. :P
Poor Ianto, still jumping at shadows re. his sexuality. Wasn't all too happy with the "I can smell it." line, it was the only thing I didn't like about Clem so far, actually. I'm still irritated that Ianto can't just GTF over it already, as I ranted in my Day One reaction post; he and Jack have been at it long enough that I can't believe he's still bellyaching about it. I'm not entirely sold on the "It's only him" thing, but at the end of the day it really doesn't freaking matter so I'm slightly annoyed that he's making such an issue out of it.
LOL at the alien throwing up on the glass. It's alright, Mr. Alien. We all get travel sick sometimes.
Also, RTD really doesn't like the American president, does he? Nor does he like the PM, or politicians of any kind, but that's just playing on the public's annoyance/part of the social commentary anyway.
Intrigued as to why the 456 did choose Britain, though I don't think there's any particular reason, unless Clem and/or Frobisher have something to do with it.
And it seems I still have no clue about Dekker - is or isn't he an alien/evil/just a mad scientist?
*racks brains for anything else I wanted to say* You know, I think I could get used to this Torchwood every night business. I've not slept much in the past week, but it's been fun, and I'll miss having something to look forward to at the end of the day, and writing these reaction posts, and snagging pretty new icons from pretty new canon and...yeah. I'm really quite worried at how depressed I'm going to be if we don't get a S4. Just think - there could only be two more hours of TW left! *cries*
The trailer for tommorrow's ep is reminding me a little of DW: The Impossible Planet/Satan Pit for some reason. No idea why. I'll have to go watch it again and see.
For now though, Happy Torchweek, and I'll be back again tommorrow! :)
(Please no spoilers for upcoming eps in the comments, thanks.)

Date: 2009-07-08 11:45 pm (UTC)IMO I think that Ianto's been ok about it before because only the team knew about him and Jack and so it was sort of private. Now that him and Jack seem more open about the relationship it means it is out there for people to judge him and I think thats what Ianto is struggling to get used to.
Also he's having to explain a relationship that he doesnt even seem to understand where he fits in (yes he's with Jack, but how committed is Jack) and as Jack is immortal he has to live with the constant knowing that he'll be replaced when he dies. So I sorta understand his insecurities this series.

Date: 2009-07-09 02:17 am (UTC)I agree that Andy is awesome, Frobisher is a brilliant character, and Alice is amazing.
Stupid sexy bastard. But I want Gwen to kick his ass first.
I think she will enjoy that.

Oh yes, good point. And characterservice - don't tell me Jack didn't love that car.
he and Jack have been at it long enough that I can't believe he's still bellyaching about it.
I recently made a long post about why I think he's having such a delayed reaction. It's very Ianto-like; I confess I didn't like the theme at first, but it's growing on me. I do like seeing what Ianto is thinking and feeling, something we haven't been told till now - except in "Cyberwoman", and even then, we didn't get much.
I don't know about Dekker either. No clue.
I think the aliens came to Britain because Green invited them, or set things up. I think Green is far more guilty than it appears. (We'll see in two days if my guess is right.)
I think I could get used to this Torchwood every night business.
It's terrible. I'm addicted. I hang around waiting for my Torchwood fix. I love this. And I shudder to think that it'll be cold turkey next week.

Date: 2009-07-09 10:45 am (UTC)I know! I really want her to make a sweeping entrance and save the team from certain doom, or something. Just so we can all go OMGWOWANDYAY! at her a)being alive and b) carrying them off on her back. Plus, then we'd get Jack/Myfanwy flirting, which would be very cool. :D
I think she will enjoy that.
I think she will too. ;)

Ooh, I could definitely buy that. He is very manipulative, isn't he?
I shudder to think that it'll be cold turkey next week.
I'm planning to just dive back into the [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] fics that I started reading beforehand. That way I don't have to stop thinking/reading about TW, but it'll take my mind off the fact that S3 is ended.

Date: 2009-07-09 03:09 pm (UTC)I'd love that, but I'd settle happily for a pterodactyl fly-by over Cardiff as the credits start to roll at the end of the last episode.
then we'd get Jack/Myfanwy flirting, which would be very cool
Jack flirting is always cool. Jack flirting with Myfanwy... I want to see him scratch her behind the ears she doesn't have. I'm sure she'd like it.
He is very manipulative, isn't he?
Yes. And a total bastard.
'm planning to just dive back into the
Good plan!
Maybe I'll finish off some of my fic. Nothing like the bigbang, but not just drabbles, either.
