...In which there is kickass!Gwen, adorable!Rhys and Ianto - who has the best plan to save his boyfriend ever.
...Okay, never referring to Jack as Ianto's 'boyfriend' again. Doesn't really work, does it?
Agent Johnson's a bit rubbish all of a sudden, isn't she? Well, she's trying her best, but she's no match for the TW team! ♥
Lois Habiba does some detective work, puts her job (and possibly life) on the line and ends up securing herself a provisional place at TW when all this is over! Still not entirely convinced by her, but she did sound very professional when reeling off those instructions and plans to Gwen and Rhys. And she finally showed some of the skills I'd expected of her after yesterday! So, go Lois! LOL. I like her, I really do.
In the final scene, we learn that Dekker is indeed an alien! Unsurprised fandom is unsurprised. He was unreasonably excited about the whole thing from the beginning. That whole plotthread with the plans and plastic sheeting reminded me of DW: Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, actually.
John Frobisher continues to gain my sympathies, even though he's the one urging Johnson to hurry up and kill TW.
Alice rings her dad to make sure he's okay! I instantly liked her a lot more than I did Rhiannon (Ianto's sister) yesterday, and today I like her even more. It's great to see that contrast with normality: one minute she's trying to ring her immortal Dad (who happens to be stuck in a slab of concrete, although she doesn't know that), the next she's going to help her son brush his teeth.
I liked Rhiannon a lot more today too, helpful to, trusting, and believing of Ianto as she was. I also thought the scene where everyone in the estate gangs up round the surveillance car and starts rocking it was an example of classic RTD writing. Power to the little people, lol. (Actually...with what's happening with the children...that's slightly unfortunate phrasing. :P)
I think I preferred today's episode to yesterday's, actually. It was a lot more fun and nothing stuck out or bugged me. Ianto showed great ingenuity once again, but unlike the radio plays he didn't just conjure an answer out of thin air - I could see how he joined the dots. And there wasn't so much Jack/Ianto to confuse the hell out of me.
And we got a little Jack/Gwen moment! :D Gwen is clearly impressed by nekkid!Jack but is trying to respectfully avert her eyes, lol. And earlier in the episode she called him her best friend, which made me smile.
I couldn't believe how sexy and kick-ass Gwen was in this today. The scene with the ambulance driver was suitably shocking; I couldn't blame her for being aggressive there. And her smile as she tells Rhys, without actually having to tell Rhys, about the baby! :D Rhys' reaction is so in character, too. I love them. ♥
We also had Andy! Yay for PC Andy. I love him defending Gwen to Johnson. And "If she's Anti-terrorism, I wouldn't mind being Uncle terrorism" made me giggle. But clearly he was forced to reveal where Gwen's flat is, which is kind of bad but it's okay because Gwen got out in time and Andy didn't get shot for refusing to co-operate! Phew!
I actually can't wait to finally see what these aliens look like! Although I also suspect that they mightn't arrive in the sealed container at all, and will just get their man-on-the-ground Dekker to open it, release the gases, poison the whole Earth and make it habitable only by them. *shrugs* We'll just have to wait and see.
Only thing I can say is that there are major plot holes concerning why Johnson didn't just have Gwen and Rhys shot by the soldiers as soon as they arrived on the base, instead of giving them the chance to get inside, find Jack and then hatch an escape plan. I suppose she wanted them to see the state Jack was in or something, torment and torture them before killing them. Having said that, a plothole which results in our favourite heroes remaining Not Dead is hardly a bad thing! XD
Bring on tomorrow!
