-          Think this is a game. Flirty. (I ship Keats/Alex so hard, omg)

-          Sam Tyler. Murdered. We don’t know that. Yes we do. In our hearts.

-          Where, how, why. About being the solution to a problem.

-          Having dinner this evening with DCI Hunt. (So she IS doing it for professional reasons?!)

-          “Oh, I have the courage, sir.” Keats repeats “Get. Him.”

-          Getting ready scene from the second preview clip. Slow mo. Sad song.

-          Gene!neck. <333 :P

-          Alex is gorgeous too.

-          Tie <3 Boots <3 (One week later: I do absolutely ADORE this theory going round that Sam gave Gene those boots as a gift and that’s why he’s still wearing them even though they’ve got holes in. <3)

-          Gene drink. Alex drink. LOL.

-          Shaz and Chris. Nothing going on between me and Ray. He’s a misogynist with a moustache, lol.

-          What’s happening? We can be scared together.

-          Ray and Shaz. Gonna search a flat.

-          I’ll be fine. (Oh, Chris :( )

-          Ray. Chris. Shaz. Labels on the tapes. Uh oh, what has Keats found? He clicks his fingers.

-          Date. <3 Luigi.

-          WOAH ALEX :O (One week later: Yes, that was the moment when my jaw dropped as she walked in.)

-          Gene remains remarkably composed. Because he’s gay for Sam. “You scrub up well, Bols.”

-          (I am grinning so hard right now. :D)

-          Chris in cell with suspect. 10 past 9. Smile. Flight. Safe now.

-          Atmosphere CID. Things fall apart! :O <3 (I fucking LOVE that book. So happy to see it mentioned in Ashes. But I really hope the fate of the main character doesn’t also foreshadow the fate of our main character. Now that I think about it, there are a metric fuckton of parallels there. Both Gene and Okonkwo end up trying to survive in a world that’s moved on around them. They’re both stubborn and loyal to the ‘old ways’ and predisposed to violence. I don’t believe Gene would ever actually kill himself though.)

-          Quiet centre of things. Leonard Cohen.

-          Differences is all we are. LOL. Cute!

-          Come on, then. Say it.

-          Elephant in the room.

-          “Did you, or did you not, have anything to do with Sam Tyler’s death?”

-          Gene <3 (Just the look on his face is enough to slay me. God.)

-          Then, quite predictably in fact, we cut back to Chris and Tobias in the cell. I held her in my arms. Dead lion, live rat. Cigarettes.

-          Shaz. Ray. Noise. Sports night. Not got much, has he. Ray, you’re a disgrace. (But he’s clever <3)

-          Box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-          Sam Tyler was a friend of mine. I learned more from him than anybody I’ve ever met.

-          Why set fire to the car? I didn’t wanna lose him. (<33333333 Gene/Sam like WHOA) Never saw him again. Just vanished.

-          Respect. Trust. Faith. All things you haven’t learnt yet, Alex.

-          Bill please. You’re a feminist, you can pay half. Get your coat, you’ve pulled. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-          Thank god, there’s some plot to save the day, lol. Bolly probably did have something more interesting for you, Gene. :P

-          Explosives in box. Interview room.

-          Chris makes a stand. He’s told to shut up.

-          Creepy man from Special Branch. Coming with us. But Chris says he’s our suspect.

-          Ray comes in to let them know there’s a bomb gone off.

-          Quattro <3

-          Ambulance. Window. Creepy house. Embassy.

-          I love this show.

-          You people did this.

-          Stop communists. Racist git.

-          Out of our league. Tell Chris to get him ready.

-          :( She didn’t leave!

-          In love with Oliver. Killed him.

-          Police officers. Angry.

-          Frightened. Weary. :(

-          Nothing to do with bomb. Chris? Is he gonna get him out?

-          Gene doesn’t care about Keats’ report.

-          Gene Hunt versus another country. (Oh, and he’d win <333)

-          Shaz. Couldn’t sleep. See how Chris was. (Writers, make up your minds! Are you doing Chris/Shaz or what?)

-          Chris. Don’t know. Brightest button. I let him go.

-          Gene’s mouth open. LOL.

-          Keats. Idiot.

-          Let him go. Order. Chris. Ship you run. Ray tries to protect Chris. Disobey me. State murder.

-          Don’t have an opinion. Okay, Guv.

-          Chris versus Gene. WOW.

-          Punches him. Fight. WOW!

-          Let them get it out of their systems. (Don’t be stupid, Alex, Gene’s could bloody break his neck! :O)

-          “Impressive”, says Keats, and then stalks off to add to his report. Uh oh, Gene.

-          Gene in his office, leans heavily on his desk. :(

-          Alex walks into Keats’s office. I know this is supposed to be a serious moment but the only thing I can look at is her legs. :P

-          Disgrace. Mockery. Keats is really fucking angry.

-          Alex tries to defend them. “We’re better than this.”

-          I don’t believe that Gene Hunt killed Sam Tyler. (Good girl, Alex. Finally. Only took you all series.)

-          I asked him. Keats’ laugh. XD

-          Yes. I believe him. Evidence?

-          The grave. (WTF Keats. What grave? The one Morgan took Sam to?)

-          “I work with him.” “He’s polluted you.” “No, he hasn’t.”

-          “You disappoint me, Alex. Now get out.”

-          Gene is still leaning on his desk. Ray and Shaz are in the background.

-          Chris walking. Whistle. Should be in bed.

-          You. Who? Seriously creepy moment. (One week later: Yes, I was too stupid to realise it was Tobias. It freaked me out someone appearing in front of him like that, ok? XD I really wanted it to be Sam. :P)

-          Things falls apart. They’ll be ok.

-          Can’t look after me own. Sir? (Why does Alex call him sir here?)

-          Keats thinks you murdered him. “I care about what you think. You don’t believe me, what’s the point?” WOAH. That’s a serious Galex moment right there. Also, emo!Gene is canon. :P

-          Chris and Tobias on the bench. Same bench as Alex and Shaz in ep 2? The rat became the lion.

-          Tobias says he shall return to the struggle. And that’s the end of the plot for this episode, lol.

-          DI Drake. Mandela. How would she know? (This is SO interesting, seeing stuff from another character’s point of view. I love hearing what the others think of Alex when she’s not around. Makes me think it’s nobody’s dream at all, it’s real.)

-          See into the future. He disappears! WOW. That’s a wonderful, wonderful moment.

-          Gene. Shaz. In the glass.

-          Not sure that I do now.

-          Tough on him, Guv.

-          Won’t happen again.

-          Best DCI. Proud to work under you. (*g* Sorry. :P) Not a doormat.

-          Buy me a drink. Shake hands. Yes.

-  HUG <3 <3 <3 <3

-          “So proud of you, Chris” says Shaz.

-          And Chris finally has his Bowieflash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-          I heard music.

-          Gene <3 Ray, Shaz, Chris.

-          Alex <3

-          Gene <3

-          Unfinished business. 10 mins? XD

-          Luigi.

-          What did it mean? Music. Pub.

-          Amazing news. My brothers, he is dead! Leave me money! Go home! (!!!!! Go HOME? Shit. Is Luigi…?)

-          Lots of voices. What’ll you have?

-          Not imagining. NELSON.It was him. YES!

-          Gene and Alex on the sofa. Did they already do it? LOL. Not yet.

-          We’ll be alright. Will we Bols? (At which point I want to burst into tears because I still don’t know if Gene lives or dies tonight.)

-          Dance. Gene Hunt does not dance. Gene Hunt doesn’t hug Chris Skelton either. LOL.

-          Music! Gene! Okay!

-          WOO.

-          Bloody hell Gene. They really want to kiss.

-          Alex <3333

-          Her head on his shoulder is the cutest thing ever.

-          Kisses her forehead. Gene is a softie!

-          We might finally be seeing bedroom!Gene, lol.

-          Kiss?

-          Door. I knew it.

-          Go on. Wait in the bedroom.

-          Please be Sam.

-          Keats :( (I’ve never been so disappointed to see him, seriously :P)

-          Not a good time. I love this song.

-          Photos developed. Gene’s listening in.

-    SAM AND ANNIE!

-           I think we found our grave. Weather vane. Lancashire.

-          Be careful Alex.

-          Ray, Chris, Shaz. Don’t like Welsh people, LOL.

-          1953. Stars together?

-          WOW. Lost in space?

-          Gene opens the door. Ghost in dream.

-          Alex? She’s gone. She’s running. Photo.

-          Be careful, Alex. Very very careful. Keats voiceover.

SO HAPPY!!!

I was very, very happy after the end of that episode.

So happy that I’d even forgotten that we have a next week trailer. (To be honest, I wasn’t expecting one. There wasn’t one at the end of LoM 2x07.)

So in the preview: This is about Sam Tyler. I can’t be in the same room with you, Alex. Trick you. Scarecrow.

08:30 And since then there’s been several preview clips released too.

I’m sad I can’t write a proper squeefest here because the euphoria I experienced immediately after watching 3x07 has faded now but I love, love, loved it. Series 3 has been absolutely spot on throughout. I really hope tonight I’m able to squee properly with the rest of fandom without my compy dying like it did last week.

I am nervous and excited about 3x08. I am loving the Alex/Keats preview and this scarecrow thing in the field is so creepy and reminiscent of Doctor Who. I really love it.

I can’t say it enough, I can’t put it in big enough capslock, but I do really fucking love Ashes to Ashes. I can’t quite believe it’s ending tonight. I guess it’ll really hit me this time next week when I can no longer anticipate more Gene on my telly that evening. Getting through the week is so much easier when you’ve got that to look forward to at the end of it. LoM used to be on Tuesday nights and in my experience Wednesdays are generally crap so having LoM to think about from the night before used to help me immensely. I know, I know, DVDs, but as Alison Graham says in her Radio Times article (page 49): “returning to a much-watched disc is like seeking out an old, oft-read love letter – not the same as seeing it the first time.

“From now on, there will be a Hunt-shaped hole in all our hearts.”
