Torchwood Radio Play 1/3 : Asylum (SPOILERS)

Overall, not a bad episode. Some good humour throughout, but IMHO not as much as fun as Lost Souls was.

The plotline was not all that original, really. The Rift stranding people out of time, feelings of "alienation" (PC Andy FTW!) in the victims? Where have we heard that before? Er...1x10 Out of Time, 2x02 Sleeper, 2x11 Adrift...yeah. Okay, so I know the writers have to cater for people who are new to Torchwood and so they need to have the essentials about the Rift explained etc. We'll have to put up with that. :P

Those are my immediate thoughts after my first listen. I'm gonna listen again on iPlayer now and waste everyone's time with a commentary. (Alright, I admit it, I have nothing better to do with my life. Happy?)
 
1.57 Title sequence and I can finally hear Jack over the music properly!  I used to have to strain to hear him before, even though I already knew the speech off by heart so it didn't really matter. :P

2.25 ANDY! I think pretty much everyone's glad to hear from him again. :)

3.15 This is really random but I love the way he says 'court'  at the end there.

3.35 JACK! *incoherent squee*

3.40 GWEN! *more incoherent squee*

3.45 Since when does Jack practice knife-throwing in the Hub? I mean I get that it's a useful skill if you're gonna be hunting down dangerous creatures all the time, but still...wtf?

3.55 "Oh, you stupid, stupid machine!" I just love how she says that. *loves Gwen*

3.59 "Come and be my beautiful assistant." Um...not sure how I can call this a Jack/Gwen moment seeing as he wants to fricking throw knives at her (now that's a point to the Gwen bashers, grumblegrumble D:), but it's all I have, damnit!

4.00 IANTO! *more incoherent squee*  Been waiting since September to hear all their voices again! *huggles OT3* But hang on, since when is Ianto in later than Gwen? He been out shopping or something? Or back to his flat to change? lol

4.07 Jack calls Gwen a monster. Gwenbashers 2 Gwenlovers 0 *cries* (He's only joking, and so am I!)

5.22 "Ghosty" makes me giggle. Sort of...not scary, Torchwood? Okay, so it's mid afternoon, can't be too scary. But "Ghosty"? :P Having said that, stupid bullies are stupid. "You ate the cat?" Not your best line, mate, not your best.

5.43 "she's got this burn on her hand" - did anyone else think of the scar on the back of people's hands from the nanogenes here? (DW 1x09 Empty Child/ 1x10 Doctor Dances)

6.26 "I know they is talking about me" Argh, the grammar thing starts to get on my nerves here. I managed to ignore it as the episode wore on, but still, made my stomach squirm, lol.

6.54 "Her face. Making...crying shapes." For some reason I really liked that description. It's slightly poetic, I guess.

7.22 "I'd give the coffee a miss but the chocolate's alright." Love this line, a lot. Gwen doing her thing here. ♥

9.58 "Not while I'm driving!" AHAHA, Ianto you have the best lines, yes you do! :D

10. 02 "How bad can it be?" Uh, Jack? You just jinxed everything.

10.22 "If you had a bash in an accident..." ROFL. How crappy is that radio station? First the Harwood's jingle, now this?

10.49 "red...which is now the colour of all the traffic lights." "Oops." :D SO. MUCH. WIN.

11.31 "Hello pussycat!" It's mid-afternoon, but there's still room for a bit of sexy. Shallow, but...Jack and Ianto on a motorbike? Hmm. Nice mental images, there. :P Jack/Ianto moment no.1, lol.

19.20 Gwen shows mad skillz with cleaning burns and cutting hair, lol. (No comments about Gwen's own hairstyle, please! :P)

24.09 "I can't just trust you on this one, you have to tell me!" Good on you Andy! Stand up for yourself! I'm so glad he's gonna be more involved in Torchwood this series, he's a great character and everyone loves him, so why not? :)

24.23 "Frieda's an alien?" *crash* "Oh God, Frieda!" Was laughing my head off at this point. Gwen and Andy riff off each other so well.

27.01 "I remembers this place so well." And finally I start to feel sorry for Frieda. I think it must be the details, the differences between her time and ours, all the hints to where Global Warming will supposedly take us, growing vegetables and conserving electricity and water rationing. They all start to build up.

27.59 "Is she your leader?" ROFL. Gwen's right, you're not helping Frieda, but you're still awesome.

31.41 Well, Andy changed his mind about Frieda very quickly there, didn't he? One moment he's all "It's an invasion!" the next he's defending her to Jack and Gwen. Make your mind up, mate. :P

35.01 And now Andy does his Gwen!routinue on Frieda. Not sure how having two people on the team with the same training's gonna help much, but I suppose we need to get Andy into Torchwood, so this was his moment.

36.40 "All these little lifecrafts off into space. Dandelion clock." At this point I sat back in my chair and pictured the scene. Another lovely little bit of poetry, here.

39.14 "There was this manno, and he made a whole in the roof and opened up the sky."..."Torchwood, he says. Something like that." Jack! Nice reveal.

41.48 "Hold on, Torchwood isn't run by committee, y'know!" LOL. Gwen and Ianto, chatting away, finding a solution to the problem and Jack's worried about his authority being undermined. :P

43.51 "The sound of the water changes, just for a moment, then it flows on, like before." Lovely closing line. I do like the writing in this, and I really grew to like Frieda.

So, not a lot on the relationships front. I'm guessing there'll be more shippy moments in the other two and in the series. Please don't spoiler me for those, though.

I still can't believe we get to do this all again tomorrow! I followed the comments on the torch_wood reaction post while it was airing, which is a first for me. Normally I wait until after. Turns out I'm not very good at multitasking though. :P Maybe I'll be more organised next time, lol.
