A2A Series 2, Episode 6

talkingtotheskyOkay, so I know I haven't said much about this series so far, but I have been loving it.
A couple of thoughts about this week's ep, next week's trailer and the series as a whole behind the cut.
This series is a lot, lot better than the first, I've gotta say. Series One was a lot of fun, but it wasn't any more than that and would never, ever live up to Mars.
But this series they've upped the ante: A LOT. Sometimes I miss the relative simplicity of LoM to this, which has so many plot threads it's difficult to keep up with even half of them. They're doing a good job with Alex, though: I genuinely think (especially with the letters and the 'What do you think happens to the world when you're not in it, Luigi?' speech) that she's going to find it hard to leave this little world behind, even though she ultimately has to go back to her daughter. (I can't see her not going back, I really can't. It'll hurt like a bitch but she's not staying.)
I knew it was going to happen from the trailer of course, but I was still shocked when Gene got beat up. I was sitting there thinking: but this is Gene bloody Hunt! You CAN'T beat up Gene Hunt, it just doesn't happen! Incurable Gene/Sam shipper that I am, when Gene locked himself in that cell I really wanted Sam back.
I do love Alex, though. She's stopped being quite as annoying as she sometimes came across in Series One. I much prefer her hair like this, too. She looks stunning.
Really looking forward to next week, too. The bit where Alex sees all those posters on the wall reminded me a little of Gwen in Adrift. I've just been trying to explain to my Dad how Martin Summers can be in the same time with different ages. He doesn't get any of this time twisty stuff. Clearly because he doesn't watch Who. But whatever.
Great moments: Gene and Alex bickering at the meeting. Any point where Shaz stood up for herself. (What is it with Chris anyway? I thought they were supposed to be making him into less of a 'div'? Why is Ray getting interested in profiling and not Chris?) Gene's "Did they lay a finger on you?" to Alex. THE HUG!
I haven't read any of the theories about what the series is building towards, and I haven't even read the 'Supertheory' that keeps getting referenced here and there. Mainly because I am avoiding them due to possible spoiler potential, and because I went through all that with LoM and it was great fun but this is Ashes and I don't have the same sort of time to invest in it as I did Mars. I just hope the ending that they've decided upon lives up to the build up it's getting. Edit: This is my 200th post! Woot! lol
