Ashes to Ashes S3 Ep 6 Reaction Post (Part Two)
- I become immortal. The day you die.
- Ray, Chris and Shaz sitting at a table in a field. Keats. A little book? No, box…?
- Ma’am. Shaz wakes Alex up from her dream. Putting the kettle on.
- Dizzy spells. Visions. Sam Tyler. Face transplant?
- You are a fantasist. And a con man.
- Fit up overkill.
- Talking about me. Ears burning. Gene’s back.
- Do you wanna get out of here? I know, Alex! I know the answers!
- Paul Thordy was Sam’s last arrest!
- A week before the accident. She calls it an accident, not murder.
- Undercover.
- ”Angry. Mocking.” “More important things to do than argue with you.” Another brilliant G/A exchange <3
- Keats holds up a folder of prison updates.
- Cells alarm. Thordie!
- Sunbeam. I work here.
- I was helping him! :OOO
- “That man is not Sam Tyler!” See? Gene says so, therefore it isn’t Sam. :P
- Crack hole wider. What now?
- Show you something.
- Visitor list. Keat’s name is in there! Keats is bent? :OO
- Background info. Want me to take over, Gene?
- Drowning! :OOOO One thing you should know about me, Jim, I float.
- I’m Sam. I know the truth. False teeth. Fingerprints! (I like this idea. A lot.)
- 2005. The year I died. What?
- HAHA at Alex with the music. Is it a, b, or c? :D <3 Alex.
- You forget, Alex. That’s what happens here. (MOLLY!!!)
- Ray and Chris. Are you in?
- I’ll share the secret. I’ll tell you. Once you know, everything you thought you knew will evaporate in a heartbeat.
- He’s not real. Let him die.
- Alex calls him a bullshitter. But Thordy’s still talking. Hostage isn’t a hostage.
- Viv is in on it! :((((((( Cousin. Riot is a cover.
- Do not let anymore men in. A Very Bad Thing will happen.
- Chris has what looks like Keats’ glasses, lol. XD
- Alex is running. It’s not a protest! It’s a set-up. Viv’s in on it.
- Shaz turns to Gene for reassurance – “Guv!” The tone in her voice here is so heartbreaking.
- Ooh, Ray’s a reporter. I really like him here. <3
- Creepy guy sniffs them both. “Old spice, fags and loneliness.” “Talc, fear, and spunk” Bumchum! :OOOO That’s some pretty overt Ray/Chris right there, even if it is a total scumbag saying it. Chris doesn’t seem to be able to answer! :OOO HAHA, but he saves it at the last minute. With PLOUGHMANS! *bursts out laughing*
- Keats says to Gene and Alex: “You two have serious communication issues.” <333 I love Keats.
- Gene’s response is just as wonderful: “Can I have a minute with my Inspector?” Keats: “Certainly.” And whistles away. I love them so much. :DDD
- He’s trying to get inside our heads. Oh, Gene. :((( I can’t help thinking about Sam here.
- Kudos! Am I mad for squeeing over the fact that they self-referenced here, just a tiny bit? LOL.
- All I gotta do is work out who, says the nasty man. Cop-detecting machine. Poor Viv! :(
- Ray cracks first and the riot recommences, but with Chris caught up in it as well. There’s a tape flies out and amazingly doesn’t shatter on the floor, lol.
- Keats walks back in to the incident room, all smug. 3 of your men.
- Poor Gene! :((((((((
- This is Commander Grey. Home Office. We need your desk.
- And then Shaz rubs it in!!!! :OOO “You sent them in there. This is in your hands.” :(((((((((
- Keats tells Gene he’s allowed some collateral damage. Gene is not happy with that. He tells Grey: “Not one hair on their heads.” <3333 Love Protective Gene, but god he looks so sad as he picks up his coat and leaves :(((((((( *wants to cuddle him* In my head Sam – the proper Sam - would have run after him and told him it wasn’t his fault. <3
- And then just to add insult to injury, Keats makes himself comfortable in Gene’s vacated seat. God, I love his smarmy evilness <333
- Oh no, Viv. :(( He confirms the truth about his cousin Carl. That means ‘Sam’ might be telling the truth…?
- Even West Ham were interested. Chris says “Not you, Skip” because he knows how it feels to have everyone hate you after something like this. :((((
- “We put our lives on the line for you” says Ray. “I hope he shoots you first. You’re a disgrace to the uniform. Go to hell.” :OOOOO Oh, Ray. I love you but that was harsh. That was very, very harsh. It’s not like Viv hasn’t suffered for his mistake, bloody hell! He’s been tortured for hours before you even got here!
- Gene says he doesn’t care what Keats thinks. <3 He’s got a case to crack. :DDD Love Gene. And then he calls Alex “a boffin of the noggin” :DDDD Awww.
- Incidental music from LoM plays here. I notice it more than ever this series.
- Alex: “This needs to be played right.” Gene: ”That an order? Anyone’d think you didn’t trust me, Drake.” <333
- “Ray,” says Chris. “If I don’t make it out of here…will you give Shaz a message? Tell her I love her.”
- Ray looks down, sad. Then he nods. “You’ve been a good pal to me. I don’t how to say this without sounding like a twat, but…you don’t get out of here…can I have your mug? Mine’s knackered.” <33333 :DDDDDDD LOL. <3 <3 <3 Ray/Chris moment for the absolute win. :DDDD
- But then we’re back to Alex and Thordy. “Let me walk out. You’re too afraid to fly. I want to float amongst the stars.” This is a tiny moment in which I do start to wonder about him. The ‘too afraid to fly’ thing to me is a reminder of Sam’s jump in 2x08. And if Thordy’s just your common or garden trickster/conman/weirdo, how does he know about the stars? BUT. This still doesn’t prove that he’s Sam. He could just be a nutter who has seen the stars and learnt Sam’s mad/coma/back in time tagline because he got inside Sam’s head when Sam arrested him and made him tell him things.
- “I watched the walls separating. I’m Sam Tyler.” But I still don’t believe you. :P I’ve gotta say though, I am LOVING the sci-fi aspect to this. How did Sam’s mind get inside your body, hmmm?
- THEN GENE WALKS INTO THE INTERVIEW ROOM. I’m watching Gene super closely here to see how he reacts. If he knows this is Sam…And Thordy is still rabbiting on. “Gene! Here we are! Gene, Alex and Sam! The three musketeers!” :O
- And Gene gets him in a headlock. “I want to die”, says Thordy. His suicidal tendencies do sound a lot like Sam, I have to admit. :P Gene seems quite happy to comply “I’m gonna snap yer neck.” And this is where the theories that Gene helped Sam to die start seeming frightening plausible. Well, it’s incredibly dark, but at least it’s not cold-blooded murder on Gene’s part (alright, let’s not get into a euthanasia = murder debate, please.)
- Alex is not happy. “Get off him!” And there’s a wonderful Gene/Alex exchange about Gene not being perfect. He’s rotten. Gene calls ‘Sam’/Thordy a toerag. My mouth is hanging wide open. Someone said this scene was proof that Gene hates Sam now and that Ashes is destroying the Sam/Gene ship. And they might be right. But is it hate? Or is it fear and pain? We know well enough by now that when Gene’s scared he lashes out, even, or perhaps especially, at the ones he loves.
- WOAH. THIS IS DARK. Ray and Chris strapped into what looks like a very sci-fi computer mainframe thing. Very scary. With all the black cords winding round them like vines.
- Meanwhile Alex is letting Thordy go! :O “There’s a tin box. The answer’s in there. Good luck Alex”
- Alex opens the envelope he gives her. Inside is what looks like a map. Me = confused. And thinking Thordy’s a fraud.
- And OMG the Quattro’s chasing him! At this point I’m thinking, if this is Sam, it’s Gene vs evil!Sam and I LOVE IT. And come on, Thordy/Sam knows he’s never gonna beat Gene’s driving. :P
- Good coppers stick together. <3 Clearly there are a few scenes that happened off-screen here. Echoes the ‘cop solidarity’ thing from last week. It speaks volumes about Alex and Gene’s relationship, but what about Sam? If this is Sam, does this mean he went mad and bad and killed someone and Gene’s been covering up for him despite it all? Whatever the case, I’m glad Alex wasn’t stupid enough just to let Thordy walk free. :P
- “You can’t trust him Alex!” Which reminds me of 2x07 and Sam saying ‘if you haven’t got trust..’ And it’s heartbreaking if Thordy really is Sam but it’s beautiful at the same time. I can still see the Sam/Gene love here even if it isn’t all hearts and flowers and they’re working against each other rather than for. Who says love has to be easy? And what could be harder than seeing your lover walk in wearing a completely new face? No wonder Gene seems to hate him. (This is all assuming, of course, that Thordy really is telling the truth)
- Sax has electrified the building! Um, how exactly has he done that? LOL. The whole way through I never believed Ray and Chris were going to die so that prevented me from getting too scared.
- “Thordy was right” says Alex. “The good guys are gonna kill them.” :( :O This is a beautiful line, delivered wonderfully by Keeley. <3
- Footsteps from above. “Sounds like the execution squad.” Chris struggles.
- Outside, Keats. Gene. “Don’t go in!” shouts Alex. Gene picks up a brick.
- Keats looking waaay too smug. Gene running. Someone mentions cavalry.
- HOLY SHIT. ß- Is me getting just a tiny bit scared. :P
- Gene and Alex running together now.
- Someone counts down on a glove. Why is everyone wearing leather gloves this ep?
- Gene throws the brick at the generator and cuts all the power. Red light. Shaz is left in the CCTV room alone in the dark.
- Smoke rising up in the dark. Yet more fighting. Well, at least the inmates aren’t having a boring day, lol. XD
- “Where’s Viv?” Gene sounds desperate. Some real vulnerability showing through here. <333
- Alex goes to help Chris out of the bonds. “I’m sorry, Ma’am.” “It’s alright, Chris.”
- “Where are you, skip?” More vulnerability in Gene’s voice.
- Viv croaks something that sounds like “Doctor. Don’t tell her I’m scared.”
- “You’re not scared.” Gene tries to reassure him.
- “Don’t tell Mum I’m scared.”
- Gene shoots Sax in the heart, just like he promised. But Sax is still being a creepy evil bastard. “My place has been assumed. Immortal.”
- Keats finds Viv first. Keats! Help him! Viv!
- Viv sees Keats standing over him and begins to choke. Seriously creepy bad angel vibes here. Keats takes him time taking off a leather glove. (See? What’s with these gloves?)
- Keats holds Viv’s face. I can’t decide whether Viv starts to shake because Keats is touching him or if he would have shook anyway.
- Gene finally gets there. “Viv!” Owie, my heart breaks for Gene there.
- And there is definite Keats and Gene bad vs good angel stuff going on again. “I’ll take him!” Gene tries to wrestle Keats’ fingers away. “It’s too late Gene.”
- “Stay with me” Gene pleads. “What are you trying to achieve?” asks Keats.
- Gene: “Shut it. Viv!” His thumb presses into Viv’s cheek and the skin looks loose.
- He’s dead. Gene looks up as the others arrive. “He died defending this wing. We put aside past mistakes. He’s a hero.” Is this just about Viv, or do you want everyone to put aside your past mistakes, too, Gene?
- Keats holds Alex back. “How many more have to die before you put the truth out?” He intones quietly, then walks away. Does this mean Alex knows now? That map Thordy gave her can’t have all the answers. What does she know?
- Back in the station. :( Helmet on Alex’s desk. Alex shakes, about to cry.
- Dead PC pops up the middle of the room. He’s getting bolder. Before he would only lurk in the evidence room. More desperate? Becoming stronger as Alex forgets more and more about getting home? For a split second I think the Dead PC might be Thorp, but then he turns and I don’t think it is. If not, who?
- He turns his head in the direction of Gene’s office. :O :O Does this mean Gene = dead copper theory is true? :OOOOOO
- Alex opens Gene’s drawer. Shirt. Whisky. Tin!!! Film!!! PHOTO!!!
- 6620. Fandom figured that out a while ago. Seriously creepy music. W.T.F?!
- PREVIEW (Two of them!): Time has come. Keats. Left with an officer like you, Skelton. Dinner with Gene! OMG Chris! Tapes. Sod off. “Did you or did you not kill Sam Tyler?” GENE PUNCHING CHRIS! Gene, don’t punch Chris! D: GENE IN A TUX! :D
- WOAH GALEX!
- Two part finale. For a moment I thought that meant we’re getting both 7 and 8 on the same night but I checked the TV guide and that’s not happening. Thank god, I don’t think I could cope.
